Out the Door Smoothly: Your Student Rental Move-Out Checklist ✅

The semester's winding down, finals are approaching, and with them comes the bittersweet reality – moving out! Whether you're jetting off for a summer internship or simply heading home, a smooth move-out can make all the difference. Here at Ferris Place Rentals, we want to help you navigate the process with ease.

Cleaning Champions

  • Refer to your lease packet for the specific cleaning requirements. [This ensures everyone's on the same page about the expected level of cleanliness.]

  • Discuss cleaning responsibilities with your roommates. Since move-out times can vary, clear communication is key to a spotless handover.

Here are some general cleaning guidelines to keep in mind:

  • Leave the entire house sparkling clean: This includes scrubbing kitchen appliances, wiping down cabinets and floors, and ensuring bathrooms are spotless.

  • Empty the fridge and pantry: Don't let forgotten food become a science experiment for the next residents.

  • Pack up your belongings, including all the trash: Don't leave any unwanted items behind.

  • Furniture disposal is your responsibility: If that old bookshelf isn't making the move, arrange for proper disposal yourself. Remember, any cleaning, trash removal, or furniture disposal costs will be charged to you.

  • Last one out? Trash duty's yours: If you're the final resident to leave, please ensure all trash and recycling are disposed of properly. Don't overload the outdoor cans!

Key Return

  • Leave your keys behind: By the lease end date, place both your bedroom key and house key on your dresser for easy collection.

  • Double-locking for security: If you're the last one out, use the spare key in the lockbox to double-lock the door after ensuring all windows are closed, appliances and lights are off (except the refrigerator!), and the place is secure.

Important Reminders

  • Unfortunately, late stays are not possible: We can't accommodate requests to stay or store belongings past the designated move-out date. Plan your departure accordingly!

  • Sublet move-out? Share the knowledge: If you have a summer subletter, make sure they are aware of these move-out requirements to avoid any confusion upon their departure.

  • Moving date confirmed? Let us know: If you know your exact move-out date before the lease ends, please inform us. This helps us manage the transition smoothly.

  • Utilities and mail forwarding: Don't forget to make arrangements for utility bills and mail forwarding to avoid any disruptions.

  • Security deposit return: To receive your security deposit back in a timely manner, please email us your new forwarding address after you've moved.

Thank you for choosing Ferris Place Rentals! We wish you the best of luck with your finals and a fantastic summer break.
